In periods where the temperatures are very hot and you are experiencing a drought, your fescue (and other cool-season grasses) will need more water.
Fescue should not be fertilized in the summer. Apply the fertilizer in the early part of spring and the fall seasons only.
If you have Bermuda, zoysia, or another warm-season grass planted, your lawn will have a better chance of surviving through the summer season. Watering is still necessary to keep the grass healthy and appealing. Fertilizing Bermuda lawns throughout the summer season will ensure the lawn is green and healthy.
Throw Some Shade
Incorporating some elements that produce shade in your backyard is smart even if you are love the sun. At some periods, you will want to escape the high levels of heat and the harmful UV rays from the sun. Thankfully, you can create shade easily in your backyard.
Consider installing a few trees in your backyard. Crepe myrtle and cherry trees provide enormous shade and color to the space. These trees also grow fast, so they are great options to plant in the spring for summer shade.

One of the most inexpensive ways to freshen up your backyard this summer is to plant colorful flowers in flowerbeds, pots, and planters.
