1. Proper Tools
One reason to hire a tree service to do the work for you is that they are going to have all the necessary tools to do the pruning and to do it safely. That includes having tools that are very sharp because a sharp tool is a safer tool. People are more likely to get hurt when they are using something dull because the tool won't grab the way that it is supposed to and the user has to work harder to get the tool to work the way it should. Those things can make a perfect storm for injury. But, a tree service is going to maintain their tools because they know that a well-maintained and sharp tool is safer and more efficient.
2. Knowledge
Another reason to work with a tree service is that they are going to know necessary to prune all your trees correctly. There are a lot of things that go into when and where your trees should be pruned. Those things include what your goals are for the tree, what kind of tree it is, and what the season is. For example, if you have fruit trees that you want to be more productive, then trees have to be pruned in a way that will force all the energy into producing more flowers, which produces more fruit.
That also needs to happen at the right time of year. Ideally, fruit trees should be pruned before the flowers start to form, otherwise it won't matter that all that energy gets pushed from new growth to flowers and fruit because the production will already have been set. That means that the tree service would have to come in the early spring to prune back the new growth.
